Tackling "tricky" issues
This forms the second element of the 5P Approach and uses the 5P Approach Problem-solving Pathway (the 5"P"s) and the three traffic light colours.
For Individuals....
When facing behaviour which is challenging (in whatever form!) it is often hard to decide what strategy to use. The 5P Approach uses the distinctive traffic light hierrachy to distinguish between levels or types of behaviour and places the emphasis on using different strategies at the GREEN, AMBER & RED levels.
When a difficult or challenging behaviour occurs, the 5P Approach problem-solving pathway and 5P Approach resources are designed to take the you through a series of steps from working out what is happening and why (problem-analysis and problem-solving) to planning a behaviour plan (the 5P Intervention Hierarchy).
The staged 5P process helps you to work out what behaviour represents the GREEN level (where we want to be and what new skills to develop), the AMBER level (the signal that behaviour issues are emerging) and the RED level (the most severe behaviour that needs to be managed quickly). This is set out in the 5P Intervention Hierarchy or behaviour plan.

For the whole school/organisation...
The same Problem-solving Pathway is used at the organisational level. This involves the creation of a GREEN zone and an Organisational Framework by identifying areas for action/development, prioritising and action planning.

The 5P Approach Introductory Course takes delegates through the process and offers practical activities to support this. To read more about the 5P courses follow this link.
