5P Approach Parent/Carer workshops
Understanding, preventing and managing behaviour - using the 5P Approach in the home (workshops specifically designed for parents and carers)
Using the principles of the 5P Approach, this course takes a look at the roots of behaviour difficulties ( why difficulties arise) and considers the strategies parents and carers can use to prevent and deal with issues that arise.
GREEN, AMBER and RED
The 5P Approach uses the distinctive traffic light hierarchy to distinguish between levels of behaviour. During this course we take a look at how you distinguish between different levels of behaviour within the home setting and how you can can use different strategies at the different "colour" levels
The 5P Approach focus is on prevention rather than cure and “GREEN” strategies, the most important of all aim to PREVENT behaviour issues from arising. In this course we take a look at what can be put into place within the home setting to create a GREEN Zone. Follow this link to the "Using 5P at home" page to read more about this
AMBER strategies, are the second most important strategies and aim to PRE-EMPT or head off behaviour issues as they emerge, getting in early to get back to GREEN as soon as possible. In this course we take a look at what AMBER strategies can be used and how and when to use them.
RED strategies, although sometimes necessary, are the last resort. They act as signals to let the individual know that a RED behaviour has occurred. RED actions aim to deal with the behaviour as quickly as possible with a purpose of getting back to GREEN In this course we take a look at RED strategies and how and when to use them and discuss the issues that arise when challenging behaviour occurs in the home.
The parent / carer sessions are presented as a mix of information and practical activity. By the end of the session parents and carers will have better understanding of why behaviour issues occur and will have acquired some practical strategies to use within the home setting.
Parent/carer courses can be delivered as follows:-
Although there are some centrally held parent / carer courses, the preferred option is for sessions to be delivered within a school or local setting. Where sessions are held within schools or nurseries it is also helpful for school or nursery staff who know the children concerned to attend. this encourages joint working and a consistent approach across home and school/nursery.
